Day 6: Engage Your community in voting

Now that you are registered, made a plan to vote and found ways to participate in the electoral process beyond voting, it is time to ask, have your neighbors, family, and friends registered to vote? Have they made your plan to vote?  Now, it’s time to help others do their civic duty. Talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to make sure they understand what’s at stake in this election and how their vote can make a difference.

If it is hard to come up with a list of people to reach out to think about:

  • Your best friend back home who you call every week?

  • Your next-door neighbor who walks your kids to school when you’re sick?

  • Your hair stylist?! You’re going to sit in that barber chair for a while, might as well make the most of it…

Tips to help your friend and family to turn out to the polls

  • Practice! There’s no loss in rehearsing what you’re going to say, to another friend or to yourself in the mirror.

  • Pick the best contact method for them. In-person conversations are always best, but if that’s not feasible: are they a caller, text, Whatapp, or Facebook or IG messenger-er? Meet them where they’re at.

  • Don’t overthink it. This doesn’t have to be long! Just a 3-5 minute conversation where you briefly catch up and get down to business.

  • Ask if they are registered to vote, and what their plan for voting is. Getting folks to visualize the process reinforces the idea and helps them anticipate what might go wrong.

  • Keep track. It sounds weird, but make a list of everyone you’ve contacted to make sure you follow up when appropriate

You’re ready to vote. You’ve made a plan. But are your friends ready, too? You can make a real difference by getting at least 3 friends to vote. Pledge to triple your vote below, and before Election Day, we'll remind you to reach out to those 3 friends.

WHICH 3 FRIENDS WILL YOU ENCOURAGE TO VOTE?
